Motivation Monday + Weekly Workout Recap

Happy Monday!

I hope you’re ready to start another week back to the grind.  This morning I woke up and went to an EFX class at FASTER.  I can definitely tell that these classes are helping me maintain if not improve my running endurance.  When we went for our outdoor run on Saturday I felt really great, which is pretty amazing considering I haven’t maintained a running regimen since the 10 miler in November.

When I got back I had some snow shoveling to do!

It’s my favorite kind too!  The beautiful kind of snow that lays on the tree branches (and weighs a billion pounds and takes down power lines).

Then I had my warm lemon water while I prepped some food for the day.  Breakfast is a grapefruit and a whole grain English muffin with almond butter+chia seed and raspberry jam.

For lunch I packed a chicken salad with kale, mushroom, grilled chicken, tomato, roasted baby redskins, buffalo sauce & balsamic vinegar:

On Friday I decided to eat candy instead of my afternoon snack, so today – take 2 Chobani with steel cut oats:

Now for the weekly workout recap from last week:

Sunday – rest

Monday – rest

Tuesday – 3.5 mile run

Wednesday – EFX class

Thursday – PiYo

Friday – EFX class

Saturday – 3ish mile run

Gotta run, but I will leave you with 2 of my favorite quotes just incase you’re looking for some motivation to get you going this week!

Hump Day Happenings

Happy hump day! We’re just about half way through another week and hopefully fending off the January blues.  If you’ve never heard of Blue Monday, it is a Monday in January that is supposedly the most depressing day of the year.  2015’s Blue Monday is supposed to be January 26th, but I would argue it might have been Monday the 12th.  Man, it was hard getting back to the grind this week, but on the bright side hopefully that means it’s only up from here!

This morning I kicked off hump day with an EFX class and now I’m back sipping my lemon water and preparing to devour this delicious breakfast:

I mixed some Chex instant oatmeal with 1% milk, then added a spoonful of almond + flax seed Barney Butter, and a small sliced up banana:

mmmm.  Then I fried up an egg for good measure.  On Monday I had made coffee at home, which I normally don’t do on weekdays.  I usually get to work and take advantage of the Keurig, but I really enjoyed iced coffee while I got ready in the morning.  So I made a bigger batch and put what was left in the fridge for mornings this week…. best idea I’ve had in a while.

For lunch today, I packed up some leftover orange chicken and rice with a side of broccoli

And a Key Lime Chobani for an afternoon snack after tea-time:

We’re only 2 days away from Friday night and pizzaaaa.  I think we’re putting Mexico on hold this Friday and going back to our roots.  On a side note – I went to a spinning class last night and thought about pizza for the entire first half of the class…the second half I spent wondering if there is something wrong with me.

Have a good one!

Free Showtime Weekend + Some Good Eats and Reads

With all of the winter shows coming back I saw something on tv the other day that I have just confirmed… Showtime is free all weekend!  I recently cancelled my subscription to movie channels other than HBO in an effort to cut down my astronomical cable bill, so I was super excited that I can watch the season premier of Shameless and maybe even catch up on Homeland this weekend (there goes all productivity).  But with this beautiful weather, it’s a good weekend for B snuggles on the couch anyway.

Last night I went to my sister’s for dinner and she made some delicious eats from her Skinny Taste cookbook:

Crab cake, greek salad, and bun-less turkey burgers with all super fresh ingredients.  It really hit the spot.  She found her cookbook at Target, and I think I might have to look into purchasing one as well.

Carl even poked his head out to check out all the commotion:

My sister has two corn snakes (Carl and Stewie).  Snakes really creep me out, but holding my sister’s snakes every once in a while has really helped my paralyzing fear.  She also has a little beta named Bosley:

This morning for breakfast I had a slice of multigrain toast with sunflower seed butter and a drizzle of honey:

Last night I finally finished the Mazerunner book series and they were really good.  They kept my interest throughout the entire series and had a Divergent/Hunger Games feel.  I would highly recommend them for an entertaining and easy read.  Now I’m moving on to Wild.

Have a good Saturday!

8 Races to Complete in 2015

Good morning and happy Friday!!

This morning started off with my second EFX (Enhanced Functional Exercise) class at FASTER, and it was a good one. The class consists of an hour of challenging circuits in an upbeat atmosphere.

Breakfast this morning is another friend egg, half of an AB&J English muffin, and a grapefruit.

For lunch I am planning to go out with a few friends (probably to Mexico, yessss), and for dinner I’m going to my sisters.  So minimal meal planning today, which is nice! Aren’t Friday’s the best?

Last night I started to put together my tentative list of races to complete in 2015.  Having something to work toward keeps me accountable, and I love a good 5k followed by a big breakfast or a few beers and brunch.  So here it is, the 2015 line-up:

1. Cupid’s Chase 5k – Saturday, February 14th 2015

2. Pittsburgh Pirate’s 5k – Saturday, TBD April 2015

3. Pittsburgh UPMC Half Marathon – Sunday, May 3 2015

4. Buffalo Half Marathon – Sunday, May 24th 2015

5. 50 Yard Finish – 5k or 10k – Saturday, June 27th

6. Gatorade Steeler’s 5k – TBD August/September 2015

7. Pittsburgh Great Race 5k – Sunday, September 27th 2015

8. EQT 10 Miler – November 2015

Some of these races I have completed in the past and others are completely new. Bring on 2015!
