Taking the PiYo Plunge

Good morning, friends! This morning I decided to take the PiYo plunge.  You may remember that I recently purchased a Groupon for a month of unlimited classes at FASTER.  Over the past week I have been attending their EFX (Enhanced Functional Exercise) classes which include an hour of circuit style workouts at different stations around the gym.  If you are in the Pittsburgh area and have ever thought about trying FASTER, I would highly recommend it.  The time flies by and the atmosphere is very upbeat.  FASTER offers a variety of classes other than their EFX class, including Insanity and PiYo.  I was familiar with the PiYo concept of including pilates and yoga moves into a sculpting workout, but I had never been to a class or done a video before.  Overall I liked the class… the hour flew right by and I felt the burn BIG time.  But I feel like I am still partial to vinyasa style yoga.  PiYo has a choreographed feel that I generally avoid when it comes to workouts (mostly because I have trouble keeping up).  But it might just be my reluctance to accept new things right away, so I think I will give it a few more tries to see if it grows on me!

The most impressive part of PiYo to me is how the instructors remember the workout.  PiYo is a package of specific workouts to go with specific songs and not much room for improvisation.  That would take me a long time to master.  I tried Pom-Pons once when I was younger, and while I don’t remember a lot of it I do remember that I was no rockstar.  Although I would also like to point out that I suspect a number of the other participants had the cast of Dance Moms at home.

On another note, I have been sticking to my morning lemon water this week and I had a fried egg and a Lemon Raspberry muffin for breakfast this morning:


I put these bad boys in the freezer after I made them on Sunday and I have been taking one out the night before to thaw.  That way they stay fresh and I don’t have to eat 12 of them over 3 days. Easy peasy (thanks, mom for the awesome tip!).

For lunch today I am finished up the last of the Cheeseburger casserole (ahh, the sense of accomplishment that comes with finishing up leftovers):


The pickles really make the dish for  me.
